Swap
Overview
Swap exchanges two selected component occurrences in your assembly: the first selected component is replaced with the second, and the second is replaced with the first.
This is similar to Inventor “Component Replace”, but it operates in both directions in a single action, which is helpful for quickly testing alternate configurations without doing two separate replacements.
How It Works
- Select the first component occurrence.
- Select the second component occurrence.
- The command swaps them and updates references/constraints as needed.
Usage Instructions
- Open the assembly containing the components you want to swap.
- Click Swap in the Replace panel.
- Select the first component to swap.
- Select the second component to swap.
- Review your assembly to confirm the swap is complete and constraints behave as expected.
Troubleshooting
- Constraints break: The two components must be compatible in terms of geometry/connection points.
- Swap result unexpected: Make sure you are selecting the intended occurrences (browser selection can help when parts overlap).
- Components look the same: If both occurrences reference the same file, swapping will have no visible effect.
Examples
Swap two fittings: Exchange positions to test an alternate duct layout.
Switch prototype parts: Swap a prototype and production part to compare performance.
Alternate configurations: Quickly test different design options by swapping components.
