Replace

Overview

Replace swaps one component occurrence for another component that already exists in the active assembly. This avoids browsing for files on disk and helps maintain consistency by reusing existing components.

Use this for quick design iterations (swap to a different size/type that is already in the assembly) while keeping assembly structure and constraints as intact as possible.

How It Works

  1. Select the component occurrence you want to replace.
  2. Select the replacement component occurrence (from those already present in the assembly).
  3. The command replaces the first with the second and updates references/constraints.

Usage Instructions

  1. Open the assembly and click Replace in the Replace panel.
  2. Select the component to be replaced.
  3. Select the replacement component from the graphics window or browser.
  4. Review the result and confirm constraints/positioning are correct.

Troubleshooting

  • Constraints break: Ensure the replacement component is compatible in terms of geometry and connection points.
  • Wrong part selected: Use the browser to pick the correct occurrence when multiple similar parts exist.
  • Replacement not available: The replacement must already exist in the assembly; place it first if needed.

Examples

Upgrade a part: Replace an outdated component with a newer version that already exists in the assembly.

Design iteration: Swap a prototype part for a production-ready version.

Maintenance: Substitute a damaged part with a spare occurrence already present.
