Units

Overview

Units standardizes length units across selected component documents, and optionally the current assembly. It can update the document length units, user parameter length units, or both.

How It Works

Units processes components based on the selection mode (Pick, Selection Set, or All) and the common filters. For each processed document, the tool can set the document length units and/or update user-parameter length units to match the selected unit.

You can also include the current assembly so its document units and/or user parameters are updated as well. Results are summarized in a report, including counts of parameters updated, already-correct parameters, and any failures to update a parameter’s units.

Context Menus

This command does not provide context-menu pickers. Inputs are set using the dialog controls.

Usage Instructions

  1. Open an assembly.
  2. Start Units.
  3. Select the unit to apply.
  4. Choose whether to update document units, parameter units, or both.
  5. Choose whether to include selected components and/or the current assembly.
  6. Select components using Pick, Selection Set, or All (with filters).
  7. Click Apply and review the summary report.

Troubleshooting

  • Apply is disabled: If Selection Set mode is selected, ensure the selection set contains components.
  • Some parameters fail to update: The parameter may be read-only, driven by another expression, or otherwise blocked from unit changes. Review the error section in the report.
  • No changes occur: The selected unit may already match the documents/parameters being processed.

Examples

Example: Standardize to millimeters

Select mm, choose to update both document and parameter units, then run on All components.

Example: Update assembly only

Enable “include assembly” and disable “include components” to update only the active assembly document.

Example: Update user parameters only

Select “parameter units” and run on a filtered set of components to update only user parameter units.
