Swap

Overview

Swap is a command that allows you to exchange two selected components in your Inventor assembly. When executed, the first selected component is replaced with the second, and the second is replaced with the first. This is similar to the Inventor “Component Replace” command, but operates in both directions, making it easy to quickly switch the positions or roles of two components in your design.

This command is useful for design iterations, prototyping, or when you need to test alternative configurations by swapping parts without manually replacing each one. Swap ensures that all references and constraints are updated to reflect the new component positions, maintaining assembly integrity.

How It Works

  1. Prompts you to select two components in the assembly.
  2. Replaces the first selected component with the second, and the second with the first.
  3. Updates all references and constraints to reflect the new component positions.
  4. The assembly is updated so each component takes the place of the other.

Usage Instructions

  1. Open the assembly containing the components you want to swap.
  2. Activate the Swap command from the toolbar or menu.
  3. Select the first component to swap.
  4. Select the second component to swap.
  5. The command will exchange the two components, updating all references and constraints.
  6. Review your assembly to confirm the swap is complete and the components are in their new positions.

Trouble Shooting

  1. If constraints are lost or broken, verify that the swapped components are compatible in terms of geometry and connection points.
  2. Check for naming conflicts or duplicate components in the assembly.
  3. Ensure both components are fully defined and compatible with the assembly.

Examples

  1. Swap two fittings: Exchange the positions of two duct fittings to test alternative layouts.
  2. Switch prototype parts: Swap a prototype part with a production-ready component for evaluation.
  3. Alternate configurations: Quickly test different design options by swapping components in the assembly.
